I'm trying to extend the fire and smoke exmaple to produce a flame thrower like effect. I'm having difficulty in getting the particles at the end of the flame to be spread out and less intense. Has ...

Have you viewed the fire example? What about that, but without the smoke?

Click categories for this forum and go to show and tell. There's a post with a link to an editor for Flint, so you can preview different settings. It is not complete, and the biggest disadvantage with that being that you can't actually view the code for the effects you create. But you might get ideas and eventually find your answer!]]>

Thanks,
I used that tool you referenced and was able to get most of the way there. You can see my work here:

It looks exactly how I want when the dragon breathes straight up or straight down. However when it breathes fire to either side it looks less realistic. Any advice on what I need to change to fix that?

I can think of a few things: - Work with the color, perhaps add another emitter with different colors. Although I fear that will only increase the CPU power needed, which seems pretty high already (my processor is at 50% when the animation is running + fire, dual core so 50% = max for one instance of google chrome here) - When firing to the side, it looks unnatural that the upper tooth closest to the camera does not cover up the fire. Not sure how to deal with that, never done any 3d stuff. - Perhaps add some more smoke to spice it up? Like, smoke earlier on - How about some smoke from his nostrils? That would be kinda awesome]]>

There's a problem with the rotateToDirection in Away3D - basically it doesn't work. I tried to fix it when developing the Away3D renderer but couldn't get it working. I was working with Away3D 2.1 back then and was new to the library, so it may be possible now. Updating the 3D renderers is in my plans but is not an immediate priority.
If you know Away3D well, you may be able to fix it. If so, please let me know. Otherwise, you'll probably get a better overall effect using a circular object as the flame sprite rather than an ellipse.]]>
