I am using the basic snow animation in the tutorial. I would like the snow to stop falling but keep the existing flakes on the stage in their position when the system stops.

If you pause the emitter rather than stopping it then the particles will remain in place.

The particle system will still exist in memory, but it will be using minimal cpu cycles.
